Beginner’s Guide: How to Start a Semi-Permanent Makeup Career
In recent years, semi-permanent makeup (SPMU) has become one of the most in-demand services in the beauty industry. It offers clients a way to save time, enhance their natural features, and feel confident 24/7. For aspiring beauty professionals, starting a career in SPMU can be both rewarding and lucrative.
Whether you're a beginner or looking to expand your existing beauty services, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know to start your journey.
What Is Semi-Permanent Makeup?
Semi-permanent makeup (also known as PMU or micropigmentation) involves implanting pigment into the upper layers of the skin using specialized tools and techniques. Common procedures include:
-
Microblading or powder brows
-
Lip blush
-
Eyeliner enhancement
-
Lash tinting and lifting
Unlike traditional tattoos, SPMU is designed to fade over time, offering a natural and low-maintenance beauty solution.
Why Choose Semi-Permanent Makeup as a Career?
1. High Demand & Market Growth
According to market research, the global semi-permanent makeup industry is expected to continue its upward trend. Clients are increasingly seeking long-lasting, natural enhancements that save them time every day.
2. Accessible Entry Point
You don't need a medical background to enter the field, though professional training is essential. With the right tools, education, and commitment, many artists build successful careers from scratch.
3. High Earning Potential
Semi-permanent makeup services often come with a high price point. Even beginners can start charging competitive rates after gaining experience.
4. Flexible Work Style
Whether you want to open your own studio, work as a freelance artist, or join an established salon, the SPMU career path allows for flexibility and independence.
Key Considerations Before You Start
Before diving into the world of semi-permanent makeup, ask yourself the following:
-
Do you have a genuine interest in beauty and aesthetics?
-
Are you willing to invest in professional training and equipment?
-
What is your budget for starting out (training, supplies, marketing)?
-
Do you want to work independently or build a team?
Taking time to reflect on your goals and resources will help you make smarter decisions in your early career phase.

Handmade pen
What are the advantages of microblading disposable pen over ordinary microblading disposable pen?
1. More hygienic: disposable use only, reducing the risk of cross-infection among customers.
2. More precise: the angled pen tip allows the operator to perform very precise micro-carving.
3. More convenient: the pen is discarded after opening and use, and no cleaning and disinfection are required.
4. More efficient: it reduces the time to prepare and clean the tools, shortening the operation time.
Micro Blade
Do your microblades contain nickel?
Our flex microblading needle are made of 304 stainless steel, which does contain traces of nickel. The addition of nickel can can enhance the corrosion resistance of stainless steel and increase its toughness and strength, ensuring that the material will perform consistently in a variety of environments. Since the microblades are only implanted through the skin, there is no adverse reaction to the skin under normal circumstances. If you are concerned about this, a patch test can be performed prior to the procedure.
Lash lift kit
Does the perming lotion contain the ingredient “Cysteamine” ?
Yes, some formulas contain the ingredient “Cysteamine”, then some contain the ingredient “Thioglycolic acid”. The active ingredient of the perming lotion is a reducing agent, which acts to break the disulfide bonds in the eyelash. Commonly used reducing agents are Thioglycolic acid and Cysteamine. Compare to Cysteamine, Thioglycolic acid has a strong reducing power.
Tattoo Numbing Patches
What are the active ingredients of the numbing patch?
Our anesthetic product formula is very mature and stable, and has been used for over 10 years. The main active ingredients are lidocaine, prilocaine, and epinephrine. Compared to single-ingredient lidocaine preparations, these ingredients work synergistically to effectively prolong the duration of sedation and even help reduce bleeding at the tattoo site.
Lip patch
Can I use numbing products on sensitive skin? Is it safe? Are there any potential side effects?
The ingredients we use are very safe, with anti-allergic effects, and under normal circumstances there are no side effects. However, based on individual differences, it cannot be ruled out that some people may experience temporary redness or irritation in some areas. We recommend patch testing before handling and following product instructions to minimize the risk of adverse reactions.
