How does tattoo butter balm compare to traditional tattoo ointments? | QM Makeup Guide
How Does Tattoo Butter Balm Compare to Traditional Tattoo Ointments?
What are the main ingredient differences between tattoo butter balm and traditional ointments?
Tattoo butter balms typically feature natural, plant-based ingredients such as shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and essential oils. These help to soothe, hydrate, and nourish the skin. Traditional tattoo ointments often contain petroleum-based products (like petrolatum or lanolin), mineral oil, and sometimes synthetic additives. QM Makeup recommends checking labels for allergens or irritants to suit sensitive skin types.
How do the healing properties of tattoo butter balm and traditional ointments differ?
Tattoo butter balm is renowned for its deeply moisturizing and breathable properties, which can speed up the skin’s natural healing process without clogging pores. Traditional ointments offer a thicker protective layer but can sometimes trap bacteria or excess moisture. For semi permanent makeup, using a butter balm reduces risk of irritation and promotes color retention.
Which is safer for sensitive or allergy-prone skin?
Due to the natural, fragrance-free, and hypoallergenic formulations of most tattoo butter balms, they are generally safer for clients with sensitive or allergy-prone skin. Traditional ointments, especially petroleum-based ones, may contain irritants. Always perform a patch test before full application, as advised by QM Makeup professionals.
Does tattoo butter balm affect ink or pigmentation differently than traditional ointments?
Butter balms are designed to preserve vibrancy and prevent fading by reducing scabbing and supporting even healing. Traditional ointments can sometimes cause ink to appear dull if not used properly, or create a sticky residue that pulls out pigment. In semi permanent makeup, butter balms maintain optimal color intensity.
What is the ideal aftercare protocol for semi permanent makeup using tattoo butter balm?
After completing a semi permanent makeup service, cleanse the area gently and apply a thin layer of tattoo butter balm 2-3 times daily. Avoid heavy ointments or petroleum jelly, which can suffocate the skin. Continue use until the skin is fully healed, typically 7-14 days, for best results. QM Makeup’s experts recommend avoiding sun exposure and picking at scabs during recovery.

If I apply perming lotion after using glue balm, will it cause the eyelashes to fall off the silicone perm rod?
Our glue balm have two formulas, regular formula and anti-falling formula. If you are used to using plastic wrap or covering strips during lash lifting, you can choose one of them; if you don’t use them during lash lifting, we recommend that you choose the anti-falling formula to ensure that after you use the perming lotion, the liquid in the perming lotion will not dissolve the glue balm, thus achieving the anti-falling effect.
Is glue balm easy to clean?
Yes, it is. You can easily clean it with glue remover or water.

Does the neutralizer contain the ingredient “Sodium Bromate” ?
Yes. The active ingredient of the neutralizer is an oxidant agent, which reconnects the disulfide bonds in the eyelashes that were broken by the perming lotion. Commonly used oxidants are sodium bromate and hydrogen peroxide. Sodium bromate works best at a neutral pH value, and can achieve a firm, elastic styling effect.
